Mexico & the Caribbean

Going to Mexico or the Caribbean? There has been a surge in cases of Chikungunya disease in some parts of Mexico (particularly on the Yucatan peninsula including Cancun) & the Caribbean (including Guadeloupe, St Martin, Martinique, British Virgin islands, Anguilla, & Dominica).

This rather nasty virus is spread by mosquitoes, and can in some cases be fatal, and there is no vaccine available.

Travellers holidaying in Cancun or the affected parts of the Caribbean should take care to avoid being bitten by mosquitoes, and if they experience a high fever (high temperature) should seek medical help immediately.
