Compression on the spinal cord is known as myelopathy. This occurs when the spinal canal becomes restricted in the neck or upper back. This may be due to degeneration in the discs and facet joints (spondylotic myelopathy) or bone spur formation in the spinal canal (stenosis with myelopathy).
